Why not use a universal remote?
YouMote doesn't replace your remotes. It makes the remotes you already use work across the whole system. When equipment changes, you teach YouMote the new device instead of reprogramming a universal remote from scratch.
Will YouMote work with my equipment?
If your devices use compatible 38 kHz infrared, yes. YouMote learns directly from physical remote signals rather than a database. If your remote controls your device normally, YouMote can learn it.
What kinds of remotes and devices are supported?
Remotes: Most IR remotes operating at 38 kHz, including TV, cable, streaming, disc-player, and universal remotes. Devices: TVs, projectors, stereos, receivers, soundbars, cable boxes, disc players, and other IR-controlled equipment.
Does it work with Fire TV, Roku, Harmony, or SofaBaton remotes?
Yes, provided the remote sends 38 kHz IR commands. Remotes that send multiple commands per button (such as some Fire TV and Roku models) may require Advanced Learning Mode. Universal remotes are supported. Exact device compatibility varies.
What is the difference between YouMote and YouMote+?
YouMote is the standard hub for typical 38 kHz home entertainment systems. It stores up to 200 learned commands and has one emitter port. YouMote+ is the expanded-capability model. It adds 40 kHz and 56 kHz IR support for compatible equipment including certain Telus boxes, stores up to 500 learned commands, and has two configurable ports.
Which model should I buy?
YouMote is the right choice for most standard home systems with typical TV, receiver, and streaming equipment. YouMote+ is recommended if you need 56 kHz support (such as for Telus equipment), plan to teach more than 200 commands, or want additional port flexibility for larger installations.
What is 38 kHz versus 40 kHz and 56 kHz?
These are infrared carrier frequencies. Most consumer AV equipment uses 38 kHz. Many US and Canadian cable boxes use 40 kHz or 56 kHz. YouMote supports 38 kHz. YouMote+ supports 40 kHz and 56 kHz.
Will YouMote work with Telus equipment?
YouMote+ supports compatible 40 kHz and 56 kHz equipment, including certain Telus boxes. YouMote (base model) does not support 40 kHz or 56 kHz.
How many commands can each model learn?
YouMote stores up to 200 learned commands. YouMote+ is planned to store up to 500. You only need to teach commands you want translated, blocked, or included in macros. Pass-through commands do not need to be taught.
How many devices can each model control?
The included emitter cable controls 4 devices on YouMote. Both models can be expanded to support up to 20 devices. Exact emitter support for YouMote+ depends on the second-port configuration.
What are the extra ports on YouMote+ for?
YouMote+ has two ports. The second port is configurable. It can be set as an additional emitter output or as a receiver input, depending on the setup.
Can I upgrade a standard YouMote later?
No. YouMote and YouMote+ use different internal hardware. There is no upgrade path between models.
How difficult is setup?
Connect the emitter cable, plug in power, teach a few commands. Setup is designed to be straightforward, not technical.
Does YouMote require an app?
No. Setup and daily use need no app, phone, or computer.
Does it need internet access?
No. YouMote works entirely locally. No cloud connection is required.
What happens when I replace a device?
Teach YouMote the new device's commands. The rest of your setup is unaffected.
Can several remotes control the same device?
Yes. Any learned remote can control any connected device.
Can one button control several devices?
Yes, through macros. One button can power on the TV, switch inputs, set the receiver volume, and start playback.
What are macros?
A macro is a sequence of commands triggered by a single button press. YouMote executes each command in order without needing you to hold the remote or time the presses.
Can YouMote block or filter commands?
Yes. Commands can be selectively blocked from reaching certain devices. This prevents crosstalk in multi-device setups.
Does it support RF, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi?
The current product is IR only. USB output is in development. Bluetooth, CEC, and home automation integration are being explored for future tiers.
What is included with the beta unit?
YouMote beta unit, IR emitter cable, USB-C power cable, and quick-start guide.
Is the beta hardware final?
No. Beta units are pre-production. Fit, finish, and specifications may change before the production release.
